My personal preference is the Switch Pro controller. Technically I guess you could also use a dualshock controller.but I've found those to be flimsy and uncomfortable in the hand. If you're using win8 or win10, you'll have to go with an Xbone controller. But you can't often find them in good condition anymore. Just an FYI: Xbox 360 controllers are great and cheap, but aren't supported past win7. Any of the souls-like games, such as Sekiro, Nioh, or The Surge. Hollow Knight or Ori and the Blind Forest. And there are many other games which are like that. You can absolutely do it, but I think your experience will be better using a controller. I know a few people who DO play dark souls with mouse+KB, but it seems alien to me. So it's not like I'm some noobscrub who doesn't know how to play, either. I recently did a deathless run of both DS1 and DS3 using a controller(died on 2nd to last boss in DS3). Which is weird to say, because I'm one of those PC-Master-Race kind of gamers. KB+M is good enough on DS3 to be plenty usable, but I prefer a controller for the other general use advantages/comforts it brings.I can't recommend any of the souls games with a mouse and keyboard. This ended up being much longer than I meant. Soul Stream is just fired in a line from the shoulder more or less.

For Sorceries they tend to be more inwards on the casting animation and cast from higher up, but just adjust for the height. Line up the shoulder/hip with the target, with the hip being a bit below the max arc you can get a fireball to go with Pyromancy, on the side that has the casting tool. The tip I picked up works for freeaiming Sorcs too, though needs adjusting slightly. You'd be surprised at how easy it is to get freeaiming down on controller tbh. I picked up on quick tricks to freeaim better, and they work wonders with Firebombs too. I learned free-aiming with Pyromancy since my first character was a Pyro and I didn't use CBV. I personally played my first 30 hours of DS3 (including some PvP) with KB+M, bought a controller and it made a world of difference. Free aim/Cam is obviously easier with mouse.but honestly it wasn't hard to get used to controller and its easily superior to KB+M, and this is coming from PC only guy.
